JEAN VANIER

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jean Vanier. Jean passed away peacefully today Tuesday, May 7 at 2:10 am in Paris surrounded by some relatives. In recent days, while remaining very present, he had quickly declined. We all know Jean’s place in the history of L’Arche and Faith and Light and in the personal stories of a great many of us. Jean’s life has been one of exceptional fruitfulness. First and foremost we wish to give thanks for that.

The funeral will be Thursday May 16 at 2pm in Trosly. in order to allow each of you to participate, the celebration will be broadcast live on the French TV channel KTO ( http://www.ktotv.com) ; an English translation will be available on that same channel.

In his last message, a few days ago, Jean said : «I am deeply peaceful and trustful. I’m not sure what the future will be but God is good and whatever happens it will be the best. I am happy and give thanks for everything. My deepest love to each one of you».

L’Arche Lethbridge (Alberta, Canada) provides an extraordinary opportunity for men and women from around the world with and without developmental disabilities to share, live, work, and learn together. Many local people participate in the life of our community as committed friends and respite workers. Sharing life with individuals with developmental disabilities at L’Arche is a counter-cultural life-style choice. It is a choice to share in the incredible gifts of individuals with developmental disabilities. L’Arche is a dynamic example of how people of very different abilities, cultures and religions can learn to live in peace. Together we discover depths of joy, freedom, and love, and the incredible beauty of each person regardless of intellectual capacity. If you think L'Arche is for you, and you would like to become part of our community please look at the drop down menu under BECOME INVOLVED to see the various ways you can participate.
